NKOSI ROMA is a US-based filmmaker specializing in shooting narratives on 16mm film. He is a self-taught artist who values trial and error and approaching each project as his first. Nkosi's grounded and immersive visual style emphasizes close-ups to convey emotions, always serving the story. Having gained much from the platform, Nkosi shares his knowledge and experiences through his YouTube channel and aspires to connect with the next generation. Recent achievements include screening the music video BY THE DAWN at the DeadCenter Film Festival and acceptance of the short film, HONORABLE into the St. Louis International Film Festival. With humility and professionalism, Nkosi is dedicated to preserving the film medium and inspiring others through his art.
Beyond cinematography, Nkosi is passionate about storytelling, and has commanded various positions from pre-production to post to see projects through to completion. The catalyst of his journey was his first film, Return to Sender, which served as equal parts experimentation and a blueprint for future work. Fulfilling the roles of writer, director, producer, editor, sound designer, and distributor, Nkosi gained a full-bodied experience as a filmmaker, with RETURN TO SENDER garnering 10 official festival selections along with an award for Best First Time Director. These experiences continue to empower flourishing collaborations across over 15 music videos and narrative short films from the past few years. Possessing a strong fundamental knowledge of all key positions, Nkosi leads with empathy and authority. His creative intuition and skill elevates every project he participates in.
